Terms of Use

For the Blocks app for iPhone and Apple Watch, the Blocks Unlimited subscription, and this website.

Effective August 24, 2026. Last updated August 25, 2026.

The short version

  • Blocks is licensed to you, not sold. Apple's standard app licence applies, and these Terms sit on top of it.
  • The free plan covers every feature for up to five active activities. Blocks Unlimited is $2.99 per month and renews automatically until you cancel.
  • Apple handles all billing, cancellations and refunds.
  • If Unlimited ends, nothing is hidden or deleted — you simply cannot add another activity past five.
  • Your data lives on your device. Keep device backups; we have no copy to restore.

1. Acceptance

These Terms of Use form an agreement between you and Nathaniel Gerdes, an individual developer (“we”, “us”), covering the Blocks apps for iPhone and Apple Watch, their widgets and extensions (together, “Blocks” or “the app”), and the website at timeblocks.io.

By downloading, installing or using Blocks, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app. Our Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

2. Your licence to use Blocks

Blocks is licensed, not sold, to you. We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service.

Because Blocks is distributed through the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the standard EULA) also applies to your use of the app and is incorporated here by reference. These Terms supplement it. Where these Terms and Apple's standard EULA genuinely conflict, Apple's standard EULA governs to the extent of the conflict.

3. Eligibility and devices

You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live, and old enough to hold an Apple Account. Blocks requires an iPhone running iOS 26 or later; the companion app requires an Apple Watch running watchOS 26 or later. We may raise these minimums in future releases, and older releases may stop being supported.

4. The free plan

Blocks is free to download and free to use. The free plan includes every feature of the app — timers, budgeting, insights, CSV export, the Apple Watch app, widgets, Live Activities, optional Apple Health integration and optional Screen Time scrolling insights — for up to five active activities. It is not a time-limited trial and it does not expire.

5. Blocks Unlimited

Blocks Unlimited is an optional auto-renewable subscription that removes the five-activity limit.

  • Price: US$2.99 per month, or the equivalent price point in your App Store storefront currency. The exact price is always shown to you by the App Store before you confirm.
  • Billing: payment is charged to your Apple Account on confirmation of purchase.
  • Renewal: the subscription renews automatically for successive one-month periods, and your Apple Account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends, unless you cancel first.
  • Cancellation: turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Cancelling stops future charges; the current period runs to its end.
  • Managing it: in Settings › your name › Subscriptions on your iPhone, or at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Blocks cannot cancel a subscription for you — only Apple can.
  • Price changes: Apple notifies you of any price increase and asks for your consent as required by its rules.

6. If your subscription ends

Blocks does not hold your data hostage. If Unlimited lapses or is cancelled while you have more than five active activities, all of your activities, sessions, weekly goals and history are preserved and remain fully visible and editable. The only change is that you cannot create or restore an additional activity until you are back under five active ones, or resubscribe.

7. Cancellation and refunds

All purchases are made through Apple, and refunds are at Apple's discretion under the App Store Terms of Service. We cannot issue, guarantee or reverse a refund. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something in Blocks did not work as described, tell us at support@timeblocks.io — we would rather fix it.

8. Your data and backups

Everything you create in Blocks is stored on your own device. You own it. We do not receive it, cannot access it, and hold no copy of it.

That has a consequence worth stating plainly: there is no cloud backup and no account-based restore. If you lose, erase, or replace your device without a backup, the data is gone and we cannot recover it for you. Keeping an encrypted iCloud or computer backup of your iPhone is the way to carry your Blocks data to a new device, and doing so is your responsibility.

9. Health information is not advice

Blocks may read workout and sleep data from Apple Health, and shows time-tracking figures derived from it. All of this is informational and for personal reflection only. Blocks is not a medical device and does not provide medical, psychological, or professional advice, diagnosis or treatment. Never disregard professional advice or delay seeking it because of something you saw in this app. Figures may be incomplete or inaccurate for many reasons, including the behaviour of other apps and devices writing to Health.

If you enable Scrolling, Blocks may also show Screen Time usage for apps, categories or sites you choose. Those figures are informational, may be approximate or incomplete, and are not a promise that Blocks can or will block an app — it never does.

10. Acceptable use

You agree not to: reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the app except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits it; circumvent, disable or interfere with the subscription entitlement checks or any security feature; redistribute, rent, lease, sell or sublicense the app; use it in violation of any applicable law; or use it in a way that interferes with anyone else's use of Apple's services.

11. Intellectual property

Blocks, its source code, design, name, logo, icon, and the content of this website are owned by Nathaniel Gerdes and protected by copyright and other laws. These Terms grant you no right to use the Blocks name, logo or icon except to refer to the app fairly and accurately. Content you create in the app is entirely yours; we claim no rights in it.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Blocks and this website are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any defect will be corrected, nor that timers, totals, charts or Health-derived figures will be accurate or complete.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits any statutory consumer right you have that cannot lawfully be limited.

13. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, loss of goodwill, or business interruption, arising out of or relating to Blocks or this website — whether based on contract, tort, negligence, strict liability or any other theory, and even if we have been advised of the possibility.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to Blocks will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us for Blocks in the twelve months before the claim, or US$50.

Nothing here excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

14. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Nathaniel Gerdes from any claim, demand, loss or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of Blocks or your breach of these Terms or of any law.

15. Changes to Blocks and to these Terms

We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of Blocks, including features and platform support, at any time. We may update these Terms; the revised version will be posted here with a new “last updated” date. Material changes will be described plainly at the top of this page. Continuing to use Blocks after a change takes effect means you accept the revised Terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the app and cancel any subscription.

16. Termination

These Terms apply until terminated. You may terminate them at any time by deleting Blocks from your devices and cancelling any subscription. We may terminate your licence if you materially breach these Terms. Sections 8 and 11 through 14 survive termination.

17. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You and we submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in California for any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.

If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction whose law gives you the protection of mandatory local rules or the right to bring proceedings in your local courts, nothing in this section deprives you of that protection or that right.

18. Apple

The following applies because Blocks is distributed through the App Store:

  • These Terms are between you and us only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for Blocks or its content.
  • Apple has no obligation to furnish any maintenance or support for Blocks. All support requests go to support@timeblocks.io.
  • If Blocks fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app, if any. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to Blocks.
  • We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to Blocks — including product liability claims, any claim that Blocks fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection or similar legislation.
  • We, not Apple, are responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of any third-party intellectual property infringement claim relating to Blocks.
  • You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and upon your acceptance, Apple has the right (and is deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.

19. General

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Apple's standard EULA, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding Blocks. If any provision is held unenforceable, it is modified only to the minimum extent necessary and the rest remains in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a transfer of the app.
